Historic Madrassas of Tripoli
Religious schools flourished in Tripoli during the Mamluk period, providing instruction in different branches of Islamic learning. Thirty-five historic madrassas survived into 2019, while six others had been lost in the major flood of the mid-twentieth century.
Among these schools are Al Qartawiya, Al Mashhad, Al Nouriya, Al Tawashiya, Al Nassiriya, Al Khayriya Hosn, Al Shamssiya, Al Ajamiya, Al Qadi Oglu, Al Namel, Al Shouhada, Al Qaderiya, Al Sanjaqiya, Al Qadi Omar, Al Saqraqiya, Al Khatouniya, Al Rajabiya and Al Mardaniya.
