Al Hamidi Mosque

Al Hamidi is associated with an earlier building known as the Mosque of the Tanners. That mosque probably dated to the beginning of the sixteenth century, during the final decades of Mamluk rule in the Levant.

The older structure was demolished and rebuilt in 1892. Residents of Tripoli carried out the rebuilding with assistance from the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II.
