Ramkin Island
Ramkin lies approximately 600 meters northwest of Palm, or Rabbit, Island. Although it has a few small sandy beaches, its landscape is mainly rocky.
An old lighthouse helped guide shipping. The French constructed facilities here during the Mandate, including barracks, and the island’s strategic military role is reflected in surviving gun positions and trenches associated with the wartime history of the coast.
The rocky shoreline contains cavities and sea caves that shelter marine life. The surrounding waters are associated with Mediterranean species including seals, dolphins and endangered sea turtles.
Ramkin has also attracted visitors interested in swimming and diving around its rocky features and caves, as well as walking, birdwatching and photography.
